How Long do Dental Implants Take?
The placement of dental implants requires two brief procedures: the placement of a titanium implant “root” and the attachment of the dental crown.
However, the period between these procedures is the longest and most important part of the dental implant process.
After the titanium post is inserted, your body needs time for your jaw bone to heal and for your bone to grow around the implant root in a process called osseointegration. Osseointegration can take three to six months. Osseointegration is critical to the success of your dental implant.
Your bone and the titanium must fuse properly and fully in order to hold your dental implant firmly in place. Houston implant dentist, Dr. Scott Young, will monitor your progress as you heal.
Because jaw bone density varies from person to person and everyone heals differently, it is difficult to predict how long an individual will require for osseointegration to run its course. The titanium roots typically merge sufficiently with bone within six months.
When osseointegration is complete and your replacement root is firmly anchored in place, you will return for the final step of your dental implants, the placement of your permanent dental crown.
